Copenhagen Dogs: Your Complete Checklist for Bringing a Pet to Denmark

Is Denmark a good place to travel or relocate to with dogs and/or cats?

There are many wonderful things about Copenhagen with dogs. There are also some aspects that will make it more challenging. Whenever I look at a country to bring my pets, there are some essential criteria I look at.

  • Is it easy to bring my pet into the country?
  • Is it easy to leave the country with my pet?
  • Are pets allowed in accommodations? (hotels, airbnb, etc.)
  • Are pets allowed on public transport? (bus, train, subway, taxi, etc.)
  • Are there fun activities to do with my dog? (parks, restaurants, hiking, beaches, etc.)
  • Are my pets safe? (strays, dognapping, dangerous insects or animals, etc.)

If I am required to move somewhere because of work or family, some of this information might be less important. However, if I want to travel to a country and it might be difficult to get in and out with my pet, that might not be the right country for us.

What is it like to travel with a dog in Copenhagen?

In Copenhagen, dogs will have a great experience. They can go to beaches off-lead in the winter, but in the summer they have to go on a leash. There are also dog forests which are beautiful and dogs can go off-leash.
We did have to pay a pet fee for hotels, but there were a number of options for places to stay with a dog.
My dog is too big to fit in a carrier, but that was okay because dogs can go on busses and metro on a lead.
The summer is a little better just because of the weather, so a lot more outdoor options are more comfortable.
