Head out on a dog-friendly adventure to the breathtaking Corona Arch, a natural sandstone arch with a massive 140 by 105-foot opening. This free, hike offers stunning views of the Colorado River and a vast slickrock canyon. The 3-mile round trip is a perfect blend of constructed trail and slickrock, ideal for you and Fido to explore (2 hours).
You can find the trailhead on Utah Scenic Byway 279, 10 miles west of the Utah 279/U.S. 191 junction.
Moonflower Canyon Hiking Trail
Discover the enchanting Moonflower Canyon on this easy, 0.6-mile trail that leads to a serene waterfall. Suitable for all skill levels and open year-round, this dog-friendly path is a hidden gem for travelers with pets.

To find the free trail drive on Cane Creek road for about a 1.5 miles. It will be located on the left hand side of the road.
Portal Overlook

This free, 2-mile trail to the overlook is a fantastic way to spend a few hours marveling at the south portal’s beauty.
The trailhead is at JayCee Park Recreation Site on Utah Scenic Byway 279, 4.2 miles west of the Utah 279/U.S. 191 junction.

When is the Best Time to Visit Moab?
When planning a trip to Moab with pet, timing is crucial. The ideal seasons to explore Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park with your dog are during the spring and fall. These months offer comfortable temperatures for outdoor activities with your pet.
Since these are the best seasons to visit especially with a dog, they can also be very busy. Plan your trip in advance to not be disappointed.
Summer, particularly July and August, can be excessively hot, with temperatures soaring into the triple digits, which can be dangerous for dogs. The pavements and trails can be too hot for their paws and heat stroke is a real danger.
Getting to Moab, UT With a Dog and How to Get Around
For those flying in, Moab is conveniently located within a reasonable driving distance from several airports. The Canyonlands Regional Airport is only 21 miles northeast of Moab, offering a closer alternative for your travel convenience.
It’s a 3.5 to 4-hour drive from Salt Lake City Airport (SLC), making it an accessible destination for those flying with pets.
If you’re coming from Colorado, Grand Junction is just a 1.5-hour drive away. Keep these travel distances in mind to ensure your dog has a comfortable journey to this stunning desert landscape. To fully enjoy the area especially with a dog, you will need access to your own vehicle.
