Is LL Bean Freeport Dog Friendly?

Are dogs allowed in LL Bean Freeport?

Since there is some confusion about whether or not LL Bean Freeport is dog-friendly. Here is the official information and our unofficial experience.

  • LL Bean Freeport Outlet: Yes, dogs are allowed.
  • Freeport Flagship Store: Any official information is old, but says only service dogs are permitted due to the two cafes they have in store.

Unofficially, many locals recommended we take our dogs to LL Bean when we were visiting. We went to the flagship store, our dogs went with us and we saw other dogs in the flagship store as well. So like many big stores, it may be that the actual practice is dependent on management and may be more subjective.

Here is our experience in Freeport. This can help you decide if it is worth the visit (we think so!) and if LL Bean Freeport is dog friendly.

LL Bean Dog Policy

The Official statement (from 6 years ago)

Dogs are allowed in our Freeport Outlet store, but not the Flagship due to the fact that we have 2 cafes there @LLBean

For Visitors to the LL Bean Freeport Outlet:

Dogs must be well behaved and on a leash.

People love visiting with their dog, but some folks on BringFido have noted the staff can be strict if your dog is vocal or does not appear under close control.

Our experience!

We were staying in Maine for a month long visit, and the folks in the area told us that LL Bean Freeport is dog friendly and we should check it out. Since Emily’s grandma has been getting the family LL Bean presents for her entire life, we had to go.

Freeport was a great little day trip! We visited the outdoor area where there were a number of dogs to meet. After snapping pics with the boot, we headed inside to get something warm for Sam. The flagship store has a great dog section with gear, beds and other essentials all in the LL Bean outdoorsy style. It was fun to check out the store and the staff were very friendly and welcoming to our two terriers.

We did snag a flannel jacket and Sam looks very handsome in it! It is actually the first clothing item we ever bought for him. The jacket has been perfect to keep his aging bones warm. His flannel was also an essential part of our cross country road trip with our dogs, since we spent fall and winter on the East Coast it really helped in those colder months.

Visiting Dog-Friendly LL Bean in Freeport

Here are some tips to consider for your visit:

  • Check the Dog Policy: Things can change! Call and confirm the store’s pet policy.
  • Well-Behaved Dogs Only: Your dog is comfortable getting attention in a busy place
  • On Leash: Use a short leash to help with tight spaces
  • Respect Others: Be mindful of fellow shoppers, especially those who may be uncomfortable around dogs.
  • Choose Quiet Times: Visit during less busy hours for a stress-free environment.
  • Be Ready to Exit: If your dog becomes anxious or disruptive, be prepared to leave and try again another time.

Bonus tip for building confidence in cautious or nervous dogs

Traveling can involve a wide range of experiences, which can be overwhelming for a dog. We love visiting large stores like LL Bean because small, positive experiences helps them handle more chaos, such as narrow walkways and bustling crowds.

Denver can be pretty nervous, so we used short visits (sometimes less than 10 minutes) to big box stores to help him form positive associations with the large busy spaces. Airports, train stations and other chaotic areas are still not his favorite thing, but his confidence is strong enough now to relax and stay calm during these busy parts of the journey.
