We just got back from spending 5 months in Thailand with our little Boston Terrier. Not the most Dog friendly country but not too difficult.
It is hard to travel between cities. We arrived in Bangkok and since they do not allow pets in the cabin on any domestic flights we had to hire a car to take us to Chiang Mai instead of taking a quick connecting flight. Then we went from Chiang Mai to Phuket. We hired a service to drive our little girl while we flew. It was a husband and wife team that took turns driving 24 hours straight! She was in good hands but it was more expensive than our flight. The train allows dogs in the “fan” only class on some routes. Busses do not allow dogs.

I wouldn’t want a dog in Bangkok, too difficult, no sidewalks, most parks do not allow dogs, crowded with people, cars, motorcycles etc. stray dogs in the less crowded areas. It can also be hard to find a place to stay that allows dogs. Not many restaurants will allow dogs, transport is tough, public transport is not easily done with an animal so you’d need a private vehicle that allows pets. In the countryside it is 100% better as long as you have a car to drive to the less populated areas in order to get some decent hikes in. There’s a lot of stray dogs in places where there are lots of people! I am very lucky in that my dog is extremely non-reactive and she seems to get along with all the strays, its ‘s quite funny to see! The vet care is good as long as you have some knowledge, because some will over-treat. Good quality food is not easy to find and most brands are not available here. I feed raw which is actually becoming quite the thing here now. If you want to fly in the country, your pet has to go in the hold, they can’t go in the cabin even if they are small.
