Spend the Afternoon with Your Dog at Pet-friendly Pruneyard Shopping Center

Is the Pruneyard dog-friendly?

The Pruneyard Shopping Center has a large open area with a deck, play area and landscaping so it is very dog-friendly

Since the Pruneyard is an outdoor shopping center, dogs can be in all of the outside areas. The majority of the restaurants and cafes will have at least a few patio tables outside while others have specialized in al fresco dining.

There are many retail stores and even a Trader Joe’s that won’t allow pets inside, but the Pruneyard can still be a fun place to window shop.

There are other places that surprise you with their dog-friendliness when you least expect it.

V’s Barbershop has a little dog station set up outside with a water bowl and a bowl full of puppy snacks. Sorry, I didn’t ask if dogs can hang out while you get a fade.

After eating lunch with a friend, I stopped at the Chase bank branch. It was a quiet afternoon, but I was surprised to see all 3 bank employees playing fetch with a little jack russell. The owner had just finished up her banking business, and the employees were happy to keep her pup entertained while the owner was putting all her paperwork away.

There are also really lovely landscaped areas and courtyards including a kid’s play area that are perfect for just chilling with your dog by your side.

During Superbowl weekend, they set up a Puppy Bowl for people to bring their dogs to play together.

While everything isn’t dog friendly, it’s about as good as we get in urban California.

If you’re looking for a delicious Mexican meal in a beautiful setting, look no further than Luna’s Mexican Kitchen at the Pruneyard.

The spacious outdoor patio boasts tasteful decor with hanging planters and Spanish tiles, and it’s perfect for enjoying a meal with your furry friend by your side. We were there most recently on a bit of a chilly California winter day. They didn’t have service open on the patio, but they opened up a section for us so we could eat with Denver. Pop on the heater and we were good to go.

Luna’s offers a wide variety of mouth-watering dishes, but their sizzling platters are the standout star. Made with fresh ingredients, the dishes have a lighter and healthier feel, without sacrificing any of the flavors.

Orchard City Kitchen (OCK)

If you’re looking for an award-winning dining experience, Orchard City Kitchen (OKC) at the Pruneyard is a must-visit.

This popular spot is often packed, so it’s best to make a reservation in advance.

While the outdoor dining section is small, it offers a cozy atmosphere perfect for enjoying their eclectic fusion cuisine, with a focus on small plates and a large selection of seafood dishes.

It’s worth noting that the tables are a bit close together, so it’s best to bring a calm and well-behaved dog if you plan on bringing your furry friend along.

Mendocino Farms Sandwich Market

Mendocino Farms Sandwich Market at the Pruneyard is the perfect spot for a quick and healthy bite. The upscale counter service is focused on using fresh, quality ingredients, with a special emphasis on vegetables, which is something that Mendocino is well known for.

Their sandwiches and salads are popular. The restaurant has a small indoor area, but the larger covered patio is where it’s at, with plenty of space for you and your furry friend to enjoy a meal together. For added fun, Mendocino Farms even has lawn games like cornhole set up for the kids to enjoy. Overall, this is a great spot to grab a tasty and healthy meal in a relaxed and welcoming setting.

Starbird Chicken

This fried chicken joint consistently wins awards for best-fried chicken, and it’s not hard to see why. It’s one of my favorite true fast-food places.

With at least 15 different sauces to choose from, there’s something for everyone, and I personally love to mix and match a few different options to keep things interesting. I usually opt for to-go orders and take advantage of the nearby landscape or courtyard areas, where my Denver can join me while I enjoy my meal. Overall, Starbird Chicken is my go-to for fast food that doesn’t sacrifice flavor or quality.

Where to Eat at the Pruneyard: Dog-friendly Sweet Treats

Flower Flour Bakery

Flower Flour Bakery at the Pruneyard is a great spot for indulging your sweet tooth. While the Willow Glen location has a more charming location, this spot has some truly jaw-dropping cakes on display. It’s reason enough to come to the Pruneyard just to gawk at their displays.

I especially love their small round cakes, which are perfect for sharing (or not!). The chocolate mousse is my personal favorite, but there are plenty of fruity flavors that my friends rave about as well. While the outdoor seating area is limited to just a few bistro tables, it’s a nice spot to enjoy your treats on a warm day. The tables are right in the middle of a main walking area, so if your dog feels nervous with people walking by all the time, there are plenty of other places to dig in.

Overall, Flower Flour Bakery is my favorite bakery in the area, and I always turn to them for special occasions and thank-you gifts.

Icecream – Humphry Slocombe

The ice cream shop is right next to one of the most relaxing areas of the Pruneyard. There are a row of wooden chairs set up on a deck. Summer bliss is a 75-degree California June, licking a bite of chocolate ice cream, gabbing with a friend, and giving your dog a scratch behind the ears.

If your dog behaves really well and sits quietly during lunch, they may be ready to burn off some energy with an off-leash romp. Butcher Dog Park is a few minutes drive south of the Pruneyard. They also provide award-winning grooming services.

Must-Do Activities at the Pruneyard That Are Worth leaving Fido behind

Trudy’s Brides

The Pruneyard has been a must-stop on the wedding journey for a long time. My parents used their services for their wedding way back in the 1970s.

I love walking by all the dresses in the window and picking out my favorite ones. However, if you want to do more than window shop, I think we can all agree a wedding shop is not an ideal place for dogs to go – unless of course, you are looking for a miniature tuxedo.

Pruneyard Cinemas

I’ll admit, I snuck my jack russell into the movies with me in a backpack once before…shhh. don’t tell anyone. It was either that or dangerous heat exhaustion for all of us (not an exaggeration).

In general, dogs are not allowed in movie theaters in California, so you might want to leave Toto at home if you want to check out a blockbuster or arthouse movie on the silver screen.
