The best time to visit the Washington DC area with your Dog

The best season to visit Washington DC with your dog in terms of weather and beauty is certainly spring. The temperatures are still moderate enough that both the humans and the dogs are comfortable. The pavements won’t be too hot for your pup’s paws. The weather is nice enough to enjoy outdoor dining. Also, it’s the time when the whole city is in bloom with the highlight being the stunning cherry blossoms.

The fall is another good time of year for visiting with your dog for similar reasons. One advantage of this season is you won’t have to share all the historical sites with 8th and 11th graders visiting on school field trips like they do every March-May.

I visited in the summer. We had a great time, but it was definitely muggy and we had to plan around the heat of the day.

Winters are possible, but it does get fairly chilly, so it will be difficult to do a lot of the outside activities that a dog requires. Winter is probably a perfect time to visit all the museums if you want a people-only trip.
