One of my closest friends moved to San Diego, so it was fun to visit with my terriers. San Diego is one of the top dog-friendly cities in the US, with many places that we could take our dogs to enjoy all the fun activities that the city has to offer.

One of our favorite places to go was the famous Balboa Park, where we could spend hours exploring the beautiful gardens and outdoor spaces. The park is incredibly diverse and offers something for everyone.

Another must-do was hitting up the beaches, with the warmer water allowing for a refreshing swim with our pups.

The vibe in San Diego is always humming, with everyone looking to have a good time. Next time you’re planning a road trip, make sure San Diego is on your list – you won’t be disappointed!

2. Palm Springs

There’s so much to see and do in this mod city. We were constantly surprised and delighted.

We found Palm Springs to be incredibly dog-friendly. You can take your furry friend all over, including downtown where you’ll find some of the most fun and crazy art installations you’ve ever seen. And if you’re lucky, you might even spot a parade of drag queens all in red gathering around the Marilyn Monroe statue.

While exploring the city, make sure to snap a photo with your dog at one of these Instagram-worthy art installations. Hopefully you will laugh as much as we did.

3. Los Angeles

Los Angeles, the sprawling Southern California city, has much to offer for a dog-friendly weekend getaway. LA provides plenty of sunshine, perfect for outdoor adventures with your furry friend.

The city is home to numerous dog-friendly parks, like the popular Silver Lake Dog Park or the Laurel Canyon Dog Park, where your pet can socialize and burn off energy.

In addition to parks, LA boasts several dog-friendly beaches, including Rosie’s Dog Beach in Long Beach and the Staircase Beach in Malibu. These settings offer a fantastic way for your pet to cool off and play in the waves while you soak up the California sun.

I have to admit that I have a love-hate relationship with LA is mostly because of the traffic jams. However, once I arrive, It’s a great destination for a vacation with my furry companion. LA has something for everyone, from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood to the pet-friendly, wide sandy beaches that go on forever.

One of my favorite things to do is stroll along the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame, spotting my favorite celebrity names and comparing my dog’s paw to the MGM lion’s.

And when it’s time for more fun in the sun, I head to Santa Monica, where I can browse the boutiques along the Third Street Promenade or simply relax on the beach.

Yes, the traffic can be overwhelming, but it’s all worth it for that feeling of being in the room where it happens, right in the center of the cultural universe.

There are also plenty of water sports to enjoy, like kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding (SUP), if your dog is brave enough to try, they can join you. There’s something about being out on the water that’s so serene and calming.

I can’t say enough wonderful things about Santa Barbara! This charming coastal town has a special place in both mine and Chris’s hearts as UCSB gauchos.

Our memories include watching a clumsy pelican fall into the water off the pier, marveling at the bioluminescence in the water, wandering through the Spanish-style architecture of the courthouse gardens, and trying to spot Oprah’s mansion in the hills around Montecito.

Plus, with so many dog-friendly activities, our furry friends were able to tag along pretty much anywhere we want to go.

Santa Barbara’s beaches are such a treat, whether we were lazing in the sun or playing in the surf.

And let’s not forget about the wine! The nearby wine country offers some of the best local vintages to sip as you take in the scenic views.

Does Solvang allow dogs?
